What’s new in Halite

Everything new in Halite, newest first. A change shows up here the day it ships, so if it’s on this page, it’s in the app.

Bug fixes are listed inside the app, under What’s New in the ⋮ menu.

October 21, 2026

  • Measure as you go shows amounts on more "add everything" steps, and no longer shows one for a portion you add a bit at a time.

  • A simpler welcome for new accounts: one short tour that ends on your recipes, a single row of shortcuts so your recipes sit higher, and tips that wait until your next visit.

October 19, 2026

  • More recipe steps now show their ingredient amounts, like eggs a later step pours something into, or chocolate a step calls "chopped chocolate".
    • Step ingredients now recognise the same food by its other name, so a recipe that lists spring onions finds them in a step that says scallions.

October 16, 2026

  • Ask AI works like a chat app now: type at the bottom, replies appear above. On phones it's a short sheet that leaves the recipe in view, and on computers it sits beside the recipe.
    • When Ask AI suggests a few options, like different substitutes, tap one to put it straight into the recipe.
    • Ask AI's starter suggestions now come from the recipe you're on, like how to fold a batter it calls for or whether it works in an air fryer, and differ from recipe to recipe.
    • Ask "what about graham crackers?" or "can I make this in an air fryer?" and Ask AI now offers to apply it, not just answer. Any change it suggests comes with an Apply button, or a few to pick from.
    • When you apply an AI edit, the ingredients and steps it changed light up for a moment so you can see what's different.

  • On your phone, Clip can now open the camera so you can snap a recipe from a book or card right there. Take a second shot for page two before you clip

October 9, 2026

  • Recipe imports from links, pasted text and video descriptions now drop fewer ingredients and get more amounts right

October 8, 2026

  • Section headings in ingredients and steps (like "For the sauce") are back in amber caps, so they stand out from the list again

    • Steps that set an oven or air fryer temperature show it in a chip, converted to the other unit
    • Prefer plain steps? Turn off Measure as you go, or just its AI fill-inSettings → Recipe steps

  • Recipe cards show a macro bar, and each home tile's colour now carries onto its page
  • Coming from Mealime: your imported recipes now sit right under the welcome card, and Show me around tours them. Open one, scale it, see its nutrition, then plan your week
  • A calmer start for new accounts: after the tour your starter recipes sit right under a one-line planner, and the verify-your-email reminder shrinks to a single line after its first showing

October 1, 2026

  • Track, Plan and Groceries are now one tap away in your home shortcuts; Track and Plan moved there (and to the ⋮ menu) from the top barHome shortcuts, or ⋮ menu
  • Choose your own home shortcuts: pin the ones you use, reorder them, pick a size, and set up your phone and computer separately. Changes made on one device show up on the other right awayTap Edit at the end of your shortcuts

  • New accounts get a tour of both ways into Halite: cook from Halite's free recipes and let it plan your week, or bring your own. Pick one, or see everything.
  • New accounts can import their first recipe from a link before verifying their email, so your first save works right away. Verify to keep importing.
  • Signing in to the Chrome extension no longer means copying a code. Sign in to Halite and the extension connects itself, then saves recipes straight to your library.
    • The extension can stay signed in on several browsers at once. Settings lists each one so you can sign any of them out.
  • New: Halite can plan your week. Pick something you have, and it plans the meals and one short shopping list from your recipes, free human-written recipes, or both.Plan → Plan my week
    • The free recipes come from Halite's collection: USDA MyPlate Kitchen and other public sources, all written by people. Choose which sources Halite plans from.
    • Each ingredient on the shopping list shows which meals use it. Things already in your pantry aren't counted, and amounts scale to how many are eating.
    • Pick a start day and drag either end of the day strip to choose how many nights. Add lunches and breakfasts for the same days.
    • Use it up turns leftovers into extra meals and reheated lunches, shown in blue in the basket grid. Wide weeks scroll to the new meals, and it says why when there's nothing to reuse.
    • Tap a proposed recipe to see it first, or tell Halite what to change, like cheaper, vegetarian, or your own words. Planned recipes join your library with your labels and a credit to who wrote them.
    • On a phone, tap Start or End, then tap a day on the two-week calendar to set your dates.
    • Discover lets you browse those free, human-written recipes, filter by time or nutrition, switch grid/compact/list views, with MyPlate Kitchen ratings, and save any to your library or plan.
  • The pantry has a clearer icon: a shelf with a jar and a can. Items already in your pantry also show a check mark.
  • On Add to shopping list, the pantry icon replaces "Have it?": tap it to save an ingredient to your pantry instead of the list.
  • ChatGPT and Claude can now plan your week, log what you ate, and tick off your shopping list through the Halite connector.Settings → Connected apps
    • Ask "how many calories have I eaten today?" or say "I had a turkey sandwich for lunch" and it goes straight into your meal log.
    • Ask it to copy a day or a single meal from any date, like yesterday's breakfast onto today, or Tuesday's lunch as tonight's dinner.
    • Ask for recipes by time, allergens, calories or protein, then have them added to your plan and their ingredients to your shopping list.
    • It can also tag a recipe with a new label, recall what you changed last time, clear a shopping list, or duplicate a recipe and keep the original.
  • Paste a recipe's ID or its link into search to jump straight to it.
  • Adding or removing labels on many selected recipes at once is now a single quick update instead of one per recipe.
  • Assistants connected to Halite, like Claude or ChatGPT, can now add and remove labels on your recipes.
  • Recipe photos in your library load faster on phones: cards now use a smaller copy of each new photo instead of the full-size one.
  • Recipes you bring in from Mealime, from multi-recipe pages, or save as a new version from an AI edit now get your labels suggested automatically, like every other import.
  • On the plan, the cart button up top now adds only the days you've selected. With nothing selected it still adds the whole plan.Plan → select days
  • Use it up now shows what it did: flip it and new meals slide into your basket, reused ingredients light up with extra dots, and the shopping bars shift.Plan my week → Use it up
  • You can switch between your recipes, Halite's collection, or both right from your planned week, and it re-plans on the spot.
  • The servings chip in the planner shows what the plan is using: your number of people, or "Recipe amounts" if you haven't set one.
  • Discover cards look cleaner: the source, rating, Save and Plan now sit inside each card instead of floating beneath it, and recipe titles show up to two lines.

September 18, 2026

  • Claude and ChatGPT can now see when you last cooked a recipe, and how often, so they can suggest something you haven't made in a while.Settings → Connected apps
  • When a clip finishes, the success toast stays until you tap View or dismiss it, so a filter can't hide the new recipe.Tap View Recipe on the toast

  • Exports now tell you when some photos couldn't be included, instead of leaving quiet gaps.⋮ menu → Export
  • Import a saved web page (.mht or .mhtml), handy for sites that block normal importing.⋮ menu → Import
  • Recipes imported from photos through the file importer now keep the original photo, like the camera clip does.
  • Pinning a recipe to prep now saves its linked sub-recipes for offline cooking too.
  • Your AI assistant can now link one recipe into another as a component, and say how much of it you need. It's the same link the app makes, not a pasted URL.Ask it to link a sauce or frosting into a recipe
  • Claude and ChatGPT can now see what's in your pantry, so you can ask what to cook with what you have.Settings → Connected apps

  • Split ingredients into sections like Dough and Caramel: start a line with ## when adding or editing a recipe. Claude and ChatGPT can add sections too.Edit recipe → Ingredients

September 11, 2026

  • Coming from Mealime? Bring your favorites over from a screenshot of your Favorites screen, or in one click from the Mealime website, before it closes on October 21Add recipe → Import → Mealime
    • Recipes brought over from Mealime now carry a Mealime label so you can find the whole batch in one tap
  • Signing up with an email you already have an account under now just signs you in, instead of stopping you at "already exists"
  • Nutrition estimates are now worked out ingredient by ingredient, with common foods looked up in the USDA database instead of guessed, so the calories and macros on a recipe are closer to the labelEdit a recipe → Recalculate nutrition
    • Ingredients listed by count, like 2 eggs or 1 onion, now get a real gram weight instead of a guess, so both the metric line and the nutrition math use it
    • Meals you describe in the food log are looked up in the same database, and branded staples like Fairlife milk, whey protein and PB2 are recognised by name
    • Importing a batch of recipes now works out each one's nutrition individually instead of estimating the whole batch at once
    • A recipe's nutrition now shows how it was worked out, ingredient by ingredient, and you can fix one ingredient's weight if it looks offRecipe → Nutrition → How this was worked out
  • The food log remembers the portion sizes you correct, so the next time you describe the same food it starts from your usual amount instead of a generic guess
  • Before a described meal is logged you can now fix each item's weight or pick a different food from the USDA tables, with the calories updating as you go. Corrected weights are rememberedTrack → + → Describe what you ate
    • The same food picker is on the edit sheet, so an item in a meal you already logged can be re-matched to the right food and re-priced from its stored weightTrack → a logged meal → Edit
    • When you say how much you had, like 2 cups or 1 slice, the weight now comes from a real measured USDA portion instead of a guess. Matched foods also offer one-tap buttons for their common sizes
    • Foods you describe are matched to the nutrition tables by meaning, not just by name, so "strawberry jam" no longer lands on raw strawberries and dishes the old matcher skipped now resolve
    • Recipe nutrition gets the same smarter matching: nearly every ingredient now resolves to a real database row, which cut the calorie error in half and the fat error by more on the test recipes
    • Ingredients measured in cups, tablespoons, or teaspoons now show the actual weighed amount for that food instead of a generic estimate, so "1 cup flour" reads as the real gram figure
  • You can now report a problem by holding two fingers on the screen, even while another dialog is open. No need to close it firstHold two fingers on the screen
  • Hiding the Tonight card from your home screen now offers an Undo, so a mistap isn't a trip to Settings to fixSettings → Home

  • Select several recipes on Home and put them all on one night of your meal plan in one goHome → select recipes → ⋮ → Add to plan

    • Your day's calories and macros now show at the top of the home screen, with one tap to log a meal. Turn it off if you only use Halite for recipesSettings → Home
    • Logging a meal from home can now copy a previous day: pick one of your recent logged days, see what was on it, and bring over all of it or just someHome → Log → Copy a previous day
  • Scrolling back through days you didn't log now offers to skip straight to the next day that has something on it, however far back that isTrack → scroll up or down
  • Copying a day on Track now lets you pick which day it goes to, not just today, and a day you just copied onto today can be copied onward from thereTrack → a day's copy button
  • When an import fails because the link is dead, Halite now says which (page taken down, site offline, or domain gone) rather than asking you to paste text that no longer existsAdd recipe → paste a link
    • A deleted or private video says which it is, rather than reporting it as a recipe it couldn't read
    • A link to a roundup post, like "21 High Protein Recipes", now tells you it's a list rather than one recipe and to open the one you want, instead of failing with a vague error
    • A link to a shop or a paid download now says so straight away, instead of spending twenty seconds and then claiming the site blocked us
    • Halite also recognises a product page from the page's own markup, so it names shops it has never seen before
    • A link whose page is gone, or whose domain no longer exists, now fails quickly rather than retrying sources that cannot bring it back
    • If Halite calls a link a shop and you think it's wrong, there's now an Import anyway button to make it try the page regardless
  • Export now makes one Recipe files zip that works everywhere: a Paprika file for other recipe apps, Markdown for Obsidian, Notion or AI chats, and a full Halite backup, photos included⋮ menu → Export → Recipe files

    • The planner’s example prompts now come from your own collection, naming ingredients your recipes actually feature, and change each time you open it
    • Select a few days on your plan and share them as a live link. Anyone can tap through to the full recipe, and it stays up to date if you move things around laterPlan → select days → Share

  • Gluten is now its own allergen you can add to your profile and filter by. Oats, barley, rye and malt are picked up, where before they showed nothing at all. Certified gluten-free oats aren't flaggedSettings → Allergens

  • The Chrome extension now works before you sign in: click it on any recipe page for a free clean copy (10 a day), and signing up from it drops you straight onto your activation code.Settings → Chrome Extension
  • Search now finds recipes by who made them, so typing a creator's name pulls up everything you saved from them
  • Shared links now select just like recipes do: tap a card's corner, hold Shift to grab a run, and clear with Escape or the Back gesture.Shared Links

  • A Beta tag now sits next to the Halite logo. Tap it any time to tell me what broke or what you'd like changed.
  • Checking off ingredients now records the day you cooked a recipe, and a "Made 4×" chip on the recipe shows every date.
  • The ⋮ menu is now grouped into Data and Help & feedback sections instead of one long list, so the item you want is easier to spot. Screen readers announce the sections too.
  • A recipe's ⋮ menu is now grouped the same way as the home menu, with Share and Help & feedback sections, so the action you want is easier to find.
  • On a computer, the settings search is ready to type the moment the page opens. Or press / to jump to it from anywhere on the page, with any existing search selected so you can type straight over it.
  • Tap the X on a label to take it off that one recipe. The label itself stays, and every other recipe keeps it. To delete a label everywhere, go to Settings.Settings → Label Order
  • The "reconstructed from the video" note on a recipe now has an X, so you can close it once you've checked the amounts.
  • The grey arrow next to the Halite logo is gone. When there's somewhere to go back to you now get a button that names it, like "Butter Chicken" or "Groceries". Otherwise the header stays clear.
  • Through the Claude connector, looking things up no longer asks your permission every time: searching recipes or reading your shopping list just answers. Editing a recipe still asks first.
  • The offer to add Halite to your home screen now waits until you've actually saved a recipe, instead of appearing while you're still looking around. Wave it off and it stays gone.Settings → Install App
  • A shared collection now says how many recipes are in it before you start reading, and the end of each one offers the next by name. It was too easy to read the first and never notice the other five.
  • A recipe shared as an image now credits whoever wrote it, with the web address spelled out so whoever you send it to can find the original. A picture carries no link, so the credit must be readable.
  • Recipes you clip now remember the cook who made them, so a share reads "Joshua Weissman on YouTube" instead of "youtube.com". The name shows on the recipe too, under the title.
  • Open a shared collection and every recipe in it now shows as a row of pictures you can flick through. Before, the count was a button you had to tap before anything appeared.

July 31, 2026

  • Your very first search now says it's one-time setup while it indexes your recipes. Every search after that is instant.

July 30, 2026

  • When filters leave no recipes to show, the empty screen now names the filters that are hiding them
  • Sorting by Recently Made now tells you when none of the recipes in view have been made yet, instead of looking like it did nothing

July 29, 2026

  • Tell Halite which allergens you avoid and every recipe flags where it stands, on every device you sign in to. You can also filter down to just the ones that come back clear.Settings → Allergens I avoid
  • Recent additions to your shopping list is always visible at the bottom now, instead of a hidden toggle you had to know to click.Groceries
  • You can now open Settings straight from a recipe's menu, instead of going back home first.Settings

July 21, 2026

  • Adding the same ingredient from different recipes now combines it into one line, showing how much each recipe needs, with one-tap undo.Groceries → Recent additions
  • When you add an item that looks like one already on your list, we'll offer to combine them. Your call, never automatic.
  • New Cook mode: a focused recipe view that keeps the screen awake, lets you check off ingredients, and steps through the method, with ingredients and steps side by side on bigger screens.Open a recipe → Cook
  • Export your recipes as a printable cookbook: one offline page with cover, contents, and photos. Make one for everything, a single label, the recipes you’re viewing, or ones you pick.⋮ menu → Export
  • The Markdown and backup exports now follow the same what-to-include choice as the cookbook, so you can export just one label or your current view instead of everything.⋮ menu → Export
  • Filtering by label is faster on a keyboard: press L, then just start typing to find the label you want instead of scrolling the whole list.Press L on the recipe list
  • Find duplicates now shows a real progress bar while it scans your library and while it applies changes, so you can see how it's doing instead of staring at a spinner.⋮ menu → Find duplicates
  • Copy a recipe's ingredients or instructions to your clipboard in one tap, handy for pasting into a calorie tracker or notes app. Ingredients copy at whatever serving size you've scaled to.Tap Copy next to Ingredients or Instructions
  • Adding your own photos to recipes no longer hits a fixed lifetime limit. You now get a fresh upload allowance every month, so your collection can keep growing.Edit a recipe → Add Photo
  • Nutrition now says whether you're seeing one serving or the whole recipe, and you can switch between them in a tap.Open a recipe → Nutrition
  • Labels that track where a recipe came from (a source or a person's name) can now be left out of AI auto-labelling, so they only ever get applied when you say so.Tap the Labels filter → pencil → Auto-label with AI
  • Searching or filtering a large library is much faster. Your recipes now load in a few big batches instead of trickling in over many small ones.
  • Filtering by two or more labels now tells you how many recipes match all of them, so the numbers on the labels themselves no longer look like they disagree with what's on screen.Pick two labels in the Labels filter
  • The summary line when you report an issue now fits a much longer description, so you no longer run out of room mid-sentence.
  • Menus like the Labels filter and view options open and close quicker now, so tapping around the app feels snappier.
  • Short on one ingredient? Say how much you actually have and the whole recipe scales down to match. No ratio math in your head.Open a recipe → Scale to what I have
  • Sharing a recipe as an image now has a Copy button that puts it straight on your clipboard to paste anywhere, and it pastes just once instead of twice in some apps.Open a recipe → ⋮ → Share as image
  • You can now permanently delete your account and all its data yourself, whenever you want.Settings → Danger zone
  • You can now change your password right from Settings, without signing out to reset it by email.Settings → Change password
  • Searching a big library is now near-instant instead of taking up to half a minute, and it still looks at titles, descriptions, ingredients, labels and your own notes.
  • Recipes that record how much they make now show the size of one serving next to the serving count, so you can see it's 46g a portion instead of guessing.Edit a recipe → Makes
  • Recalculating nutrition now also works out how much the recipe makes, so the serving size fills itself in, and it never overwrites one you typed yourself.Open a recipe → Nutrition → Recalculate

  • Recipes you import now get tagged with your existing labels automatically, the same way recipes you add by hand do.

  • Managing your labels now shows how many recipes each one holds. Tap a count to jump straight to those recipes, so you can see what to keep, merge, or delete.Settings → Label Order

  • Notes you save on a recipe are now easier to read and stand out clearly, so they're harder to miss at a glance.
  • Share several recipes as one image, each with its photo, ingredients, and steps, laid out in a tidy grid to save or send.Select recipes → Share → Share as image

June 22, 2026

  • Clipping a roundup webpage (e.g. '5 easy weeknight dinners') now shows all the recipes for you to pick from, instead of mashing them into one.
  • You can now merge duplicate labels in Manage Labels: select two or more, tap Merge, and pick a name to fold them into one.Settings → Manage Labels
  • Importing a recipe now asks where it should land (at the top of your list, or filed by its original date) so a new import never quietly disappears into your history.
  • Find duplicates now also spots look-alike labels: scan your library, review the matching recipes and labels together, then remove the extra recipes and merge the duplicate labels in one pass.⋮ menu → Find duplicates
  • The new-label box is tidier: 'Nest under' now starts collapsed and opens to a searchable list, so a long label collection doesn't fill the screen.
  • You can now share a recipe as one clean picture (the whole thing, not a cropped screenshot) and pick whether it's the full recipe, just the ingredients, or just the steps.⋮ menu → Share as Image
  • Password-reset and email-verification emails now arrive in Halite's own look, sent from halite.cc, so they're cleaner and easier to trust.
  • If your email isn't verified yet, Halite now tells you up front which features that unlocks (AI imports, AI editing, and sharing) and lets you resend the link right where you hit the limit.
  • You can now sort your recipe list by what you've cooked most recently. Pick 'Recently Made' from the sort menu, right alongside Newest and Highest Rated.Tap the sort button above your recipes

June 11, 2026

  • Halite now tells you when something ships: a dot on the ⋮ menu means there are updates you haven't seen, all collected under "What's New", newest first.⋮ menu → What's New, any time
  • You can now connect Halite to Claude and manage your recipes by chatting: search your collection, import from a link, create and edit recipes, even file feedback.Settings → Connected apps
  • Halite occasionally points out a feature you haven't tried yet, right where it lives. One small tip at a time, and you can turn them off whenever you like.Settings → Tips to opt out
  • Importing a backup file, or a page or video with several recipes, now shows a preview first. Fix titles and untick anything you don't want before saving.
  • The progress bar while importing a recipe from the web now reflects what's actually happening (fetching the page, reading the recipe, saving) instead of a guess.
  • Exports keep showing their progress after you close the menu, and you can cancel one mid-flight. Large backup restores are processed in chunks so they no longer fail partway.
  • Create, rename, and delete labels without leaving Settings, or jump there via "Manage labels" at the bottom of the label dropdown.Settings → Label order
  • Imports no longer auto-create dated labels. The import date shows on the recipe page instead.
  • Recipes you're actively cooking from (adding notes, ticking off ingredients) now rise toward the top when sorting by Recently Updated.
  • Nutrition estimates are more consistent, creator-claimed numbers are double-checked, and Halite warns when a recipe's calorie count looks implausibly low.
  • AI features and sharing now require a verified email address. If you signed up with a password, check your inbox for the verification link.
  • Password-reset and verification links from Halite emails now finish inside the app instead of a bare browser page.
